JEE (Joint Entrance Examination)

 

The Joint Entrance Examination (Main), popularly called JEE Main, is the exam conducted for admission to BTech, BArch and BPlan courses at NITs, IIITs, other Centrally Funded Technical Institutions (CFTIs), Institutions/Universities funded/recognized by participating State Governments. The JEE Main exam is also an eligibility test for JEE Advanced, conducted for admission to IITs.
JEE Main is held twice a year which gives students two opportunities to secure a good score. However, students have the option to appear in one or both attempts.
Candidates seeking admission in Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) need to qualify the JEE Main by securing the minimum cutoff marks. The competition is intense, with lakhs of students appearing each year, making it essential for aspirants to prepare diligently. 

 

JEE Main

 

Purpose: The JEE Main is the first stage of the entrance exam and serves as a screening test for the JEE Advanced.

 

Eligibility:


Educational Qualification: Candidates should have passed or be appearing in their 10+2 examination or equivalent from a recognized board.
Age Limit: As per the JEE Main eligibility criteria released by the NTA there is no maximum or minimum age to apply for JEE Main. Candidates of any age can apply and appear in the JEE Main exam. The only criteria which is applicable is that the candidate can appear in JEE Mains for three consecutive years from the year of passing class 12. For example, if a candidate is applying for JEE Main 2024, candidate must have passed class 12 in 2022, 2023 or appearing in 2024.
Number of Attempts: Candidates can attempt JEE Main for three consecutive years.
Compulsory Subjects:  For BTech- Physics, Mathematics, and any one subject among Chemistry/Biology/Biotechnology/Technical Vocational Subject
For BArch- Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics
For BPlan- Mathematics

 

Format:

 

Mode: National Testing Agency conducts JEE Main exam in online mode as a computer based test. JEE Main exam is conducted for three different courses; B.Tech, B.Arch and B.Plan. The exam for B.Tech and B. Plan is completely online while the exam for B.Arch is partially online and drawing part is conducted offline. The exam is held across various test cities in India and abroad.
Type of Questions: It includes both Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) and Numerical Value Questions (NVTs).
Duration: Typically, the exam is 3 hours long.
Scoring: Each correct answer usually earns 4 marks, while incorrect answers may incur a negative marking of 1 mark.

 

Stages:

 

Paper 1: Held in January and April.
Paper 2: This is a pen-and-paper test for admission into B.Arch and B.Planning courses and is separate from Paper 1.
Syllabus: The JEE Main syllabus is based on Class 11 and 12 curricula from the CBSE board, including Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics.

 

 Physics Chemistry Mathematics


 

The JEE Main 2025 exam will consist of two papers:

 

Paper 1 for admission to BE/BTech courses. It includes questions from class 11 and 12 Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics subjects.
Paper 2 for admission to BArch and BPlan courses. Paper 2 is further divided into Paper 2 A for BArch and Paper 2B for BPlan. Paper 2A includes Mathematics, Aptitude Test, and Drawing while Paper 2B consists of Mathematics, Aptitude Test, and Planning-based questions.
The exam will be conducted in a computer-based format, except for the Drawing section of Paper 2, which is pen-and-paper based.
